A farmhouse full of history
Casa Camini was once an authentic farmhouse in Le Marche, Italy, inhabited by the Silvestri family from Cossignano. The ground floor housed a stable (stalla) and a small winery, while the first floor consisted of two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen (cucina).
The ruins of the past
By the time we purchased the property, little remained of the old farmhouse. The front façade was still standing, but the walls were unstable. During the 2016 earthquake, large parts collapsed, and the entire rear section had already disappeared. With no original blueprints or photographs available, restoration was impossible – a complete demolition and rebuild was the only solution.
A new design with a view
The lack of original plans gave us the freedom to design something entirely new. We chose a façade with as many windows as possible, so guests can enjoy and discover the panoramic views of the rolling hills of Le Marche from both the living room and kitchen. In addition, we created a 60 m² covered veranda, which serves not only as an inviting outdoor living space but also as natural sun protection. A unique feature is the outdoor fireplace, mirroring the one indoors – a playful nod to the name Camini (chimneys).
Demolition and foundation
After waiting a year for the necessary permits, demolition finally began at the end of 2019. Since the 2016 earthquakes, Italy has enforced strict building regulations for foundations. Beneath the villa, 25 reinforced concrete piles were installed, each 14 meters deep and 80 cm in diameter, topped with an 80 cm thick concrete platform. The swimming pool was also given a robust base, supported by 11 piles. This created a structure that is not only modern and luxurious, but also safe and sustainable.
From shell to holiday villa
Within a year and a half, the villa reached shell stage. Unfortunately, this coincided with the global COVID-19 pandemic. Building shortages and delivery problems caused considerable delays.
Nevertheless, with perseverance and creative solutions, construction continued. By 2024 the project was nearly completed, and we were able to welcome our first guests – the result of years of dedication and passion.
In the rebuilding process, we made a conscious choice to combine authentic elements of the original farmhouse with a contemporary design. The result is a villa with true character, where the charm of the past meets the comfort and luxury of today.
